Bringing memories to life

The first Reminiscence Training workshop was held at the Llanelly House offices this week, with Estelle taking the one-day session. The workshop has been structured around the needs of health workers, people working in social care and those in the heritage industry. Anyone who works with the public, the elderly or vulnerable groups will benefit from Reminiscense Training days, which show how to capture life stories and oral histories and feature a high level of interaction between attendees. On Tuesday, those taking part in the new session were given guidance on the delivery of Reminiscence and memory-capturing workshops as well as the development of memory sharing within a group.

If you are interested in learning more about Reminiscence delivery workshops, contact Estelle at the Llanelly House office on 01554 772857. Courses are free – so book now to avoid disappointment.

Flying the heritage flag at the Senedd

An exhibition of HLF-funded projects, at Cardiff’s Senedd building, saw a big showing from the Llanelly House project on Wednesday 7th December. Focusing on the volunteering aspect of these projects, the event was attended by several AMs and other visitors. Dame Jenny Abramsky, chair of HLF, was particularly impressed by the time-lapse video of Llanelly House, which was being shown alongside the graphics and handouts. The team was able to Tweet live from on the stand, the comments being shown on a large Twitter screen covering the event at the Senedd.

Arts competition takes shape

A further meeting of the Arts Competition panel took place on Wednesday, with advisor Ethne Phillips taking part for the first time. The marketing strategy and plan was presented, the thrust of which will be a media relations programme with direct communications, advertising/advertorial and events participation sitting alongside. Each stream of the marketing mix will interlock for maximum effect and leaflets will be available as handouts and for wider distribution and email/newsletters will support the programme. A series of meetings is planned, involving Terry Morris, with local, specialist and national media, as well as with various influencers and groups, while the visual potential of the House’s hoardings will be used to the full extent. A full specification for the Competition with relevant targets is to be drawn up next week.
